KW To KVA Calculator

To calculate kilowatts to kilovolt-amps, use the following formula:

The Real Power in Wattsis equal to the Apparent Power in Volt-amps multiplied by the Power factor (pf)

KW to KVA Formula

For Example 01

If an Induction motor takes 10KW active power at 0.8 (lag) power factor from the AC source. Calculate the KVA rating of the motor.

Answer

Where,
Active power P = 10KW , Pf = 0.8

We Know
S (KVA) = Pkw ÷ Pf
S (KVA) = 10 ÷0.8
S (KVA) = 12.5
KVA = 12.5

For Example 02

If an Induction motor takes 8KW active power at 0.95 (lag) power factor from the AC source. Calculate the KVA rating of the motor.

Answer

Where,
Active power P = 8KW , Pf = 0.95

We Know
S (KVA) = Pkw ÷ Pf
S (KVA) = 8 ÷ 0.95
S (KVA) = 8.42
KVA = 8.42

Frequently Asked Questions:
What do you convert kw to kilovolt-amps for ?

When you calculate equipment loads, fuses and wire sizes, you convert watts to kVA and device capacity is written in KVA, so kilo watts are converted to KVA.

What is DC Circuit 1 kw in kilovolt-amps (VA) ?

A watt changes depending on whether the electrical circuit is AC or DC. In a DC circuit, 1 kilo watt is the equivalent of 1 KVA.

What is AC Circuit 100 kilo watts in kilovolt-amps (KVA) ?

A watt changes depending on whether the electrical circuit is AC or DC. In a DC circuit, 100 watts is the equivalent of 125 KVA. This equivalence means that the power factor of that power supply is 0.8.

What is the formula for kilo watts to volt-amps ?

Apparent Power(KVA) = Real Power(KW) / Power factor in PF.

If 100 kW is 0.8, how much is KVA?

125KVA

If 125 kW is 0.8, how much is KVA?

If 15 kW is 0.8, how much is KVA?

18.75KVA

If 25 kW is 0.8, how much is KVA?

31.25KVA

If 30 kW is 0.8, how much is KVA?

37.5KVA

If 50 kW is 0.8, how much is KVA?

62.5KVA
