Watts To KVA Calculator

To calculate watts to kilovolt-amps, use the following formula:

The Real Power in Wattsis equal to the Apparent Power in Volt-amps multiplied by the Power factor (pf)

Watts to KVA Formula

For Example 01,

If an Induction motor takes 100W active power at 0.95 (lag) power factor from the AC source. Calculate the KVA rating of the motor.

Answer

Where,
Active power P = 100W , Pf = 0.95

We Know
S (KVA) = Pw ÷ 1000 x Pf
S (KVA) = 100 ÷ 1000 x 0.95
S (KVA) = 0.105
KVA = 0.105

For Example 02,

If an Induction motor takes 5000W active power at 0.85 (lag) power factor from the AC source. Calculate the KVA rating of the motor.

Answer

Where,
Active power P = 5000W , Pf = 0.85

We Know
S (KVA) = Pw ÷ 1000 x Pf
S (KVA) = 5000 ÷ 1000 x 0.85
S (KVA) = 5.88
KVA = 5.88

Frequently Asked Questions:
What do you convert watts to kilovolt-amps for ?

When you calculate equipment loads, fuses and wire sizes, you convert watts to VA and device capacity is written in KVA, so watts are converted to KVA.

What is DC Circuit 1 watts in kilovolt-amps (VA) ?

A watt changes depending on whether the electrical circuit is AC or DC. In a DC circuit, 01 watt is the equivalent of 0.001 KVA.

What is AC Circuit 100 watts in kilovolt-amps (KVA) ?

A watt changes depending on whether the electrical circuit is AC or DC. In a DC circuit, 100 watts is the equivalent of 0.117 KVA. This equivalence means that the power factor of that power supply is 0.85.

What is the formula for watts to volt-amps ?

Apparent Power(KVA) = Real Power(Watts) /1000 x Power factor in PF.
